Thank you, Alexia

The Kalamazoo Promise congratulates former Scholar Engagement Manager Alexia Jones, who made a lasting impact at The Promise and has embarked on a new adventure in Washington, D.C. at Goodwill of Greater Washington.

Beginning her journey in 2018, Alexia started working with The Promise as an intern while attending Western Michigan University. After earning her bachelor's degree in behavioral psychology from Western Michigan University, she was offered a full-time position.

2023-24 ELEVATE Cohort

Over the years, Alexia transitioned to the role of Scholar Engagement Manager, assisting scholars who frequent our space with their needs. Alexia was involved in various projects throughout her journey, including Self-Care with Clinique, empowering scholars to prioritize self-care and believe in caring for themselves as they do for others. She helped initiate the ELEVATE program, a 2–3-year commitment to Promise-eligible scholars, providing comprehensive support to overcome challenges rooted in systemic inequity.

As Alexia concludes her journey, she expresses, "Promise team, thank you for the opportunities. Thank you for being open and giving me the chance to be creative and try new things. As a scholar, I am grateful to the donors; having minimal debt allows me to leave the state and embark on a new chapter in my life."

While enthusiastic about her new endeavors, Alexia leaves the Promise community with some advice: "There is no dream too big. If you want something, go for it. Always believe in yourself, be comfortable in your strength, and pursue what you want to do. When you are confident in yourself, others will also have confidence in you. Always aim high. Kalamazoo will always be home, but there is a world out there."

We extend our thanks to Alexia for her contributions to The Kalamazoo Promise and wish her the best as she continues her journey in Washington, D.C.
