Elevate Your Success: 1% is Enough.

Author: Leasia Posey

After a long day of work, the last thing you want to do is a long, overwhelming list of “self-care” and “wellness tasks.” Instagram and TikTok glamorize the “5-9 before my 9-5" trend. So instead, you unwind with snacks and a show and tell yourself, “I’ll figure it out tomorrow.”

But the truth is, tomorrow feels just like today. You wake up tired, scrolling your phone before even brushing your teeth, already feeling unmotivated.

Your life runs you instead of you taking ownership of it. You push your plans aside and tell yourself they don’t matter when really, those small plans are the stepping stones to something greater.

The key isn’t doing everything at once. It’s doing just 1% each day. This isn’t about writing sticky-note affirmations or following a strict routine. It’s about building tiny, intentional habits that align with your values and make your life easier to manage.  What matters most is  consistency.  You create momentum; you start shaping a version of yourself that feels grounded and in control.

Let’s talk about it.

The best place to start is by asking yourself: What do I actually want to do?

Growing and improving isn’t just about adding tasks; it’s about being honest with yourself.

Let’s focus on these key areas to make your process more intentional and focused. To truly move toward any goal, you need to build awareness, identity, systems, and accountability around it.

Say you want to make a million dollars; that's great! This is not only a high-paying job or striking gold with crypto. What matters is what mindset was chosen to build from that moment?

Do you believe millionaires are healthier, smarter, calmer, kinder, or humbler? Because how you see that version of success will shape the small steps you take to become it.

Alright—so now you know the concept, but it’s time to do the work. One of the most important things to understand is how you communicate with your own mind.
Your brain needs a clear direction. When your brain registers that clarity, it’s much more likely to follow through.

James Clear created this formula in his bestselling book “Atomic Habits”, creating habits in a way that signals to your brain, “Yeah, we’re actually doing this,”  creating a structure your brain to understand and act on.

The Formula

A habit becomes a true part of your life when it becomes non-negotiable. The areas that we know are not negotiable to have a sustainable life are:

Health and Wellness

Wealth and money

Career

Mindset and Intelligence

Relationships

Spiritual Wellness (If you have spiritual relationships)

Let’s be real—what are you watching these days?
It’s summer 2025, and that means new movie releases, binge-worthy shows, and daily episodes of your favorite reality series. One of the season’s biggest hits? Love Island on Peacock.

Every night around 9 PM ET, a fresh episode starts. By then, most of us want to be settled in—comfortable, relaxed, and ready to enjoy the drama (without feeling as stressed as the contestants searching for love!). But here’s something to think about: How do you set yourself up to really enjoy that time?

Whether you realize it or not, you might already be using a strategy that James Clear describes in Atomic Habits. A formula called “Habit Stacking + Temptation bundling”

Habit stacking is the idea of pairing a new habit with something you already have.
Temptation bundling is linking something you need to do with something you want to do.

It’s a simple but powerful formula:

“I will [need to do] before/while I [want to do].”

For example:
“I’ll clean up the kitchen before I watch Love Island.”

Having all this in mind, let’s put it together!

Grab a notebook and mark today’s date, create 10 simple habit formulas. These will include the non-negotiables in your life—the things you must get done—and the goals you’re working toward. Then, you’ll add temptation bundling to make these habits more appealing to your brain, so you’re motivated to do them tomorrow, and the next day, and the next 30 days.

Track your progress toward your bigger goals as you go. Adjust the formulas to fit your daily life and watch how you not only grow in personal development but also create proof of your progress. That proof will keep you motivated to stick with it for the long run.

And here’s the best part: you only need about 20 minutes to start. Just 1% of the time you might have spent doom scrolling, overthinking, or doing something else. Instead, you used it to plan your own growth.

Be proud of yourself. And give yourself a reward that reminds you that you’re ready to do it again tomorrow!
